PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act), enacted in three phases, is now fully in force.  It has a direct impact on any form of business organization that collects data on customers and/or that has employees... this means virtually every business!

There are ten key principles or obligations for the collector of personal data under this Act.  Without replicating the entire Act, the overall principle is that in order to collect and use personal data, the collector must get consent directly from the customer for the type of data collected and how it will be used.  The collector is obligated to safeguard this data.

Complying with this Act will enhance your relationship with your clients as they can be confident that their personal information will not be misused... it enhances the level of trust your customer has with you.
